• Street Mode makes it even harder for criminals to access funds by adding an extra layer of security to transfers made outside trusted locations.
  • The feature also responds to cases where criminals exploit an unlocked phone after theft or force the victim, under duress, to confirm a transfer. Incidents like these continue to occur and often lead to significant financial losses, which is why preparedness is crucial. Street Mode adds another layer of protection designed to ensure that customers stay in control of their money — especially at moments when it matters most.
  • The feature arrives ahead of the holiday period, when busy shopping streets and late-night events increase the risk of such incidents.
  • Street Mode expands the Wealth Protection feature, which is already used by more than one million customers across Europe. It is one of several advanced technologies Revolut uses to safeguard users’ financial assets.

Bratislava, 2 December 2025 — Revolut, the global fintech app with more than 65 million customers worldwide, today announced the rollout of Street Mode in the United Kingdom and the countries of the European Economic Area, including Slovakia. Street Mode is a new security feature designed to protect customers from theft involving violent phone snatching or forced transfers. It introduces an additional, location-based, customisable layer of protection for moments when users are on the move.

As fraudulent tactics evolve, there are more situations with serious financial — and personal — consequences. These include cases where perpetrators exploit an unlocked phone or force the victim to confirm a transfer, sometimes even making them complete a selfie verification on the spot. This type of attack is known as “transfer mugging.”

Street Mode launches ahead of the bustling shopping and holiday season, when crowded streets and late evenings create more opportunities for criminals. Once enabled, customers can define their “trusted locations.” Outside of these areas, Street Mode switches on automatically and applies extra checks and a one-hour delay to outgoing transfers above the chosen limit. These steps create a crucial window of time during which fraudulent activity can be prevented and funds protected from transfers made under duress.

Rami Kalai, Product Manager at Revolut, said: “It’s incredibly important that we keep pace with the new threats targeting our customers’ funds, and violent transfers are among those on the rise in many cities and countries. Street Mode is a smart, location-sensitive security shield that adapts to the places where customers need an extra level of protection, giving them confidence while on the go. Street Mode gives Revolut customers control by strengthening the protection of their finances at the exact moments they need it most.”

How customers can activate Street Mode:

  • Enable the Wealth Protection feature in the Security section of their profile
  • Set a transfer limit
  • Activate Street Mode
  • Add trusted locations — these can be added or removed at any time, such as hotels during travel

After activation:

  • Within trusted locations: Customers can make transfers above the set limit using phone-based identity verification, which is processed instantly.
  • Outside trusted locations: In addition to the initial identity check, the transfer will be delayed by one hour, and after this hour, an additional selfie verification will be required.

The launch of Street Mode expands the Wealth Protection feature introduced last year, which provides additional biometric security to protect customers’ savings from pickpockets and phone thieves. Wealth Protection is part of a suite of advanced security tools designed to safeguard Revolut users’ funds. More than one million customers in Europe have already activated it.

Notes for editors

Street Mode is an optional security feature and does not guarantee complete protection.
